Half Persian 3-1 Band

Half Persian 3-1 differs from half Persian 4-1 in that it effectively has two sides. This bracelet is made up from four rows of half Persian 3-1 - by adding extra rows you gain two bracelets in one design.

One method of starting half Persian 3-1 is to make a short length of European 4-1 and then edge one side in half Persian 3-1, as in steps 1-7. You then remove the surplas rings of the European 4-1. For this project, do not remove the European 4-1 strip until you have finished adding all four rows as this will help you to know which end of the chain is which.

A single strip of half Persian 3-1 is made using rings with a smaller aspect ratio of around 4.1. You need a larger aspect ratio to make a sheet (this bracelet is a narrow sheet or band), as you are connecting rings on two sides. As a result, the weave will seem very loose and a little unwieldy until you have added a third row.

NOTE: When you add a new row of rings, please check the instructions as the chain is repositioned for every row.

1.
Close thirty nine black rings. To make your strip of European 4-1, link two closed black rings and two closed black ice rings with one black ice ring. Lay out the rings as shown.

step 1

2.
Link one black ice ring up through the bottom black ring and down through the bottom black ice ring. Link one closed black and one closed black ice ring.

step 2

3.
Repeat step 2 until you have a strip of European 4-1 that is six rings long. Turn the strip so that it is side on with the black rings at the bottom.

step 3

4.
From the back, weave one black ice ring up through the first black ring and down through the intersection of the second and third black rings.

step 4

5.
From the back, weave one black ice ring up through the second black ring and down through the intersection of the third and fourth black rings. Weave the black ice ring so that it sits in front of the black ice ring added in the previous step.

step 5

6.
Repeat the weave by weaving up through the next ring and down through the intersection of the following two rings.

step 6

7.
Repeat step 6 until you have added four black ice rings. Place one closed black ring behind the last black ring of your European 4-1 strip.

step 7

8.
Repeat the weave by weaving one black ice ring up the next black ring and down through the following two black rings (in this case, the last black ring of the European 4-1 strip and the closed black ring added in the previous step).

step 8

9.
Continue the weave by placing one new black ring behind the last black ring of the chain. Weave one black ice ring up through the next black ring and down through the following two black rings of the chain. Continue until the chain is slightly too long - subsequent rows will pull the weave in and thus make the chain shorter.

step 9

10.
Go back to the start of the chain and add one black ice ring by weaving it through the intersection of the first and second black rings and behind the black ice ring already in position. Do NOT remove the European 4-1 strip - it is helpful to leave it in place until the bracelet is complete so that you will know which end is which.

step 10

11.
Return to the finishing end of the chain. Weave one black ice ring up through the second last ring and down through the last ring.

step 11

12.
Turn the chain and position it as in the picture. It is easier to add the next row of half Persian from this side. You will be working from left to right.

step 12

13.
Weave one champagne ring up through the intersection of the first and second black ice rings and down through the third ring.

step 13

14.
Weave one champagne ring up through the intersection of the next two black ice rings and down through the following ring.

step 14

15.
Repeat step 14.

step 15

16.
Continue adding champagne rings as in step 14 until you reach the end of the chain (where the European 4-1 strip is still attached). Weave the last ring through the last intersection of rings and close. This last loose ring will be secured when the last row of black rings is added.

step 16

17.
Return to the end of the chain where you started adding champagne rings. Link one champagne ring through the centre of the second champagne ring and the centre of the first champagne ring and behind the champagne ring already in position.

step 17

18.
Turn the chain over - again it is easier to add the next row from this side of the chain. The last row of black rings is woven to create a mirror image of the first black row. You will be working from right to left. Link one black ring through the first champagne ring and down through the intersection of the second and third champagne rings.

step 18

19.
Link one black ring up through the next champagne ring and down through the intersection of the following two champagne rings. Continue adding black rings in this way until you reach the end of the chain.

step 19

20.
At the end of the chain, link one black ring through the centres of the last two champagne rings. Remove the European 4-1 strip.

step 20

21.
At the other end of the chain. link one black ring through the intersection of the first two rings and behind the black ring already in place.

step 21

22.
At one end of the chain, link one small black ring through the intersection of the last black ice and champagne rings. Link two small black rings and the toggle bar to the small black ring just added.

step 22

23.
At the other end of the chain, link one small black ring through the intersection of the last black ice and champagne rings and the toggle ring.

  • Try using silver with pastel colours such as ice pink and ice blue.
  • Use only two colours - one for the edges and a contrasting colour for the centre rows.
  • You can also use other metals such as copper, bronze, jewellers brass, stainless steel, bright aluminium, niobium, sterling silver or gold fill. Mix your metals or choose one, such as copper, and mix with anodised aluminium.
